🍀 Making a promise is one thing… keeping it is another. 🍀
About two years ago in Montreal, the international community agreed on the 30 by 30 principle. The idea was to protect 30 percent of the Earth’s land and water biodiversity by 2030.
Countries were also supposed to develop strategies to reduce subsidies that harm the environment (about $500 billion by 2030).
This week’s negotiations showed that much progress remains to be made. Observers are concerned about the pace and commitment of countries to these goals. Some 158 countries (or 81% of all countries recognised by the UN) have yet to submit their plans to meet the targets.
The implementation of this agreement is crucial in setting the course for humanity in the decades to come. We are keeping a critical eye on what is happening and are not losing hope for last-minute agreements and solutions, as we have seen in the past.
Humanity just needs to get its act together and implement the actions it’s committed to.
