The Republic of Korea hosted the World Environment Day 2025 on June 5, with a powerful global focus: ending plastic pollution. Announced by the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), this event will spotlight the urgent need to tackle the 430 million tonnes of plastic produced annually—much of which pollutes oceans and ecosystems.
This milestone aligns with Korea’s role in leading the Fifth Session of the Intergovernmental Negotiation Committee on plastic pollution in 2024, aiming for a legally binding global agreement.
